3 Tips To Avoid Fraud When Searching “rv Trader Online”
Written by admin on March 12th, 2010
Most people who search for “RV Trader Online” are searching for a used RV or you are trying to sell one. Since more than likely you found this by searching for RV trader online or something very similar, you could probably use some tips on how to spot the difference between a good deal and a scam.
Fraud Advisory Number 1: Shipping
One of the biggest online scam running is the pay extra scam. It sounds like a good deal but remember, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” In this version, someone will want to pay full price for the trailer. The only problem is they cannot come get it because they are overseas, live too far away, etc. Therefore, they will send you a money order for the full price plus a few extra thousand for you to ship it.
What makes this scam work so well is the money order looks real. You can even take it to your bank and wait for it to clear before you send the RV. What you do not know is that in the US a bank can only hold money orders and checks so long before releasing the funds. The problem is it could take longer to verify an overseas account and you get stuck with the bill.
Fraud Advisory Number 2: Deposit Required
Frankly, I am not sure who falls for this one but lots of people do so it is worth mentioning. First, you see a great motor home, travel trailer, or what have you on an online site like Craigslist or EBay. When you contact the seller, they require you to give them a deposit before you are allowed to see it. The excuses vary and some can even sound somewhat reasonable like wanting a deposit in case you damage it.
The scam is fairly straightforward from this point. If you give the crooks a deposit, you will never see it again and more than likely, you will never see the motor home either.
Avoid Fraud with RV Dealers
The easiest way to avoid fraud is with an RV dealer. Many have their used RVs available online for your convenience. Additionally, they have a wide range available making choosing your next RV easier.
However, the biggest benefit is the peace of mind. Even when you are buying a used RV for sale by owner, if it is on a lot, you know it is the real deal. A reputable RV dealer will not risk their reputation by pulling a fast one.
