   At 1:27 is the G.A.R. Building. Quiete the plotical force in their day, they were like the American Legion or AMVETS for civil war veterans.
   The Grand Army of the Republic had over 500,000 members at one time – all northern U.S. forces who fought to save the union and ultimately free the slaves. 3 Presidents came from their ranks; Garfield, Hayes, and McKinley (Grant was not a member) anyway, this was their fine meeting place in Detroit circa – 1890

    If I recall, that building was a union war vets clubhouse of some kind. Very unique and beautiful. Of course all of Detroit back then was one of a kind and picturesque.

    If you’ll be back, where did you go?? To a safer community I would bet.

    Part II – Cairo Il – If it was bought by the square, Affordable historic style homes built. Downtown district saved where possible, torn down and recreated where necessary. Push to bring in small industry. Bio firms are good the pay is good and they emply the right number. Make it self sustaining and the rest service – resturants, furniture, etc. Tap into tourists and festivals etc.

The same thing happened on a smaller scale. Check it’s location – pretty neat. It has rivers, railroads and interstate. The weather is fair. Check next post called Part II

    Seriously -I can’t stop watching this video. critically the song is perfectly haunting but I would have switched out some of those pictures right after the train station interior shot and kept it breathlessly dramatic. And in the silent part gone to old post cards and shots in general.
    It’s really sad. We have to do better.
